Scariest anime?

I've decided to drop my normal anime watching routine or sci-fi/action/comedy/drama, and try to watch my first horror anime, and what way to start off with the scariest!

So in your experience was is the creepiest anime you have ever watched it can be anything from something that kept you awake at night or kept you jumping during the film.

Look up genocyber, nothing competes against that form the countless animes I've seen. The ova are terribly gruesome, filled with tremendous acts of rape, horror elements, and excruciatingly painful events. Children getting ripped to shreds, skins melting, skin turned inside out.

The vajranoids are species exterminators and are incredibly powerful and scary as **** the genocyber terminated most of the human civilisation in a really short time and in a very cruel and anomalous way. And it's quite scary. Very scary tbh.

Nah, if you've seen elfen lied or mirai nikki you'll be fine. Fist of the North Star is also a mention, not horror, but very brutal and all lol.

Someone mentioned Another, which I agree with. Close second would probably be Higurashi, but the heavy moe has a varying effect on that.

Horror and anime don't really mix, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) is worth a watch though.
