Honestly, it depends on several factors as well as the person. If I had to choose though, I'd say taking a life is harder while saving a life is more important.

Madara has been personally seen or mentioned as being the reason a multitude of ppl got sent on their way to the Pure World, both before and after the founding of hidden villages. Madara had a code against attacking defenseless ppl, and it was the only reason some ppl managed to live long enough to be able to say they fought him.

Killing is easier, but to try and save a life, isn't always clear cut and takes more effort.
