Itachi used a technique to transfer or activate something in Sasuke
My suspicion is that it's either Perfect Susanoo or the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror, it only makes logical sense for Itachi to give a parting gift to Sasuke before departing to the afterlife. I don't think Kishimoto would just let the Totsuka and Yata disappear from the plot with Itachi, esp. since they were based from the Sacred Imperial Regalia of Japan, from a writer's perspective the sword and the shield would be his living legacy in Sasuke and a memento of his love for his little brother who is living in dangerous times. Thoughts?
