Sasuke's teleportation limitations

If Sasuke's teleportation jutsu allows him to swap his body with another object, why did he need Sakura's jacket in order to perform it? Wouldn't he be able to just swap places with a rock, or with a speck of dust, or with the air? Aren't all of those matter after all?

Also, if in order to teleport himself and/or another one he needs another object, how did he teleport himself many other times without the need of any object at all? Like here, for example:

But I think that swapping is just part of the ability.

I'm not sure how credible the source is, but I read on naruto.wikia that his range is extended if he swaps with something. Normally he can teleport on his own but in order to extend his range of teleportation he needs to swap with something or someone

Yeah, I'm afraid it is just that... Oh dear, the main reason why I love Naruto is the way all jutsus (and the universe in general) have a basis (and most times a really interesting one, indeed), but this kind of trash-like ones which Kishimoto sometimes pulls off makes me go mad.

My guess is that he doesn't need a object to swap to teleport. I believe that having a object to swap with allows his range to go further.. That's my guess.

He has use his s/t several times before without swapping with a object.

I agree with the idea that swapping with air is harder and more chakra-consuming, and the less range the easier it is. Soooo he needs an object to swap with if he is going to dimension jump
