sasuke's Mangekyou

i have a question. it is said that those who achieve the mangekyou sharingan are damned to live the rest of their life forever going down a road of darkness and evil. this is what Itachi said to sasuke while they were fighting. im wondering whether or not this is applys to sasuke. technically sasuke was given the mangekyou by itachi so is he still under the influence of this. please answer. its really confusing me
