You don't have to have the affinity yourself to teach someone. I'm pretty sure the basic principle is the same all around and I'm sure it's something that Orochimaru studied anyway. Kakashi taught Naruto how to use wind.

Teaching someone how to use their Nature type is one thing. Sasuke's Sharingan is what copied Chidori, having Lightning nature was required to do so as it is a lightning infused variation of Rasengan.

Sasuke copied...he didn't learn it....

You cant copy chakra nature, just techniques. Sasuke had to master Raiton in order to use his lightning jutsu.

I'm really tired right now so Im not grasping all of your argument so I'll jsut type what I think is an appropriate response.

Sasuke has lightning nature genetically. I believe that Oro would've figured this out through training and of course he'd want to figure out what elements his host would possess. So he would've learned that Sasuke had it taught him how to use it. So...are we in agreement?

Yeah I'm sure Sasuke would have been able to develop Lightning Nature just fine & Oro would have been able to develop it. But without Kakashi, Sasuke wouldn't have Chidori.

well is chidori unique to kakashi? Or is it a jutsu you can just learn? I feel like kakashi used it on someone and they knew what it was even though I dont think theyd met before. I dont remember entirely, but I think that Sasuke could've learned it without Kakashi per se. I did vote that Kakashi's teachings saved him though.

This is the same thing as Rasengan for Naruto.

If Naruto wasn't taught, he wouldn't have learnt it. Sasuke would have learned a Lightning hit attack though. Naruto and Sasuke's jutsus represent themselves.

He may have recognised it but Orochimaru could not use it nor could he ever show it to anyone.

It is Kakashi's tech. Chidori is a Rasengan which has been fused with the users(Kakashi's Lightning nature). The result was the unstable but highly piercing and mid-range Chidori. Although not as strong as Rasengan, it can pierce more.
Theoretically anyone with a lightning nature and able to use Rasengan, could do it. Sadly, there are very few people who have ever managed to master Rasengan. Naruto, Minato, Jiraiya and to some extent Kakashi.

Kakashi didn't teach him wind....only helped him find out that he had the affinity using the chakra paper....

does it matter ? kakashi don't have wind affinity but he know how the method to awaken/train the affinity to ppl who have wind affinity, just like melizzle said, its just basic knowledge for jounin level and kage level

That is true. From what I've seen of Sasuke though, he doesn't seem to look for new Jutsu, but rather makes his existing ones stronger. Maybe he wouldn't have tried to get Lighting or even develop it. Maybe he would have focused solely on Fire style.
That said, I think Sasuke's Nature was Lighting and he simply had a strong affinity for Fire as all Uchiha do.

agreed. he's quite similar to Naruto in that regard. his fire techniques all revolve around variations of the fireball, and his lightning techniques all around variations of the chidori, much like naruto made variations of the rasengan.

Yes it matters. Sasuke needed to use Sharingan to copy Kakashi's movements and thus copy Chidori. Having Lightning nature made it possible for him to use Chidori but seeing it is what made it happen.
Guiding someone to use their skill is one thing but making them copy a direct move that requires a nature is another.

And then taught him how to use it...remember when he taught him to focus his chakra to cut leaves in half? He was teaching him how to use his wind affinity.

+ rep. I forgot all about naruto's wind training even though yamato nor kakashi werent even wind types. Besides alot of things affected sasuke's win and not just his lightning based attacks

last time i checked kakashi said that sasuke take down the lighting affinity train in just a few days even for a genius, he never mention that sasuke use the sharingan to copy his movement

Yeah but that's because Sasuke's nature was lightning. If he hadn't used Sharingan to copy Chidori, then he would have needed to first learn Rasengan, which would make no sense as he never uses it and was surprised when Naruto did.
You understand?

Blaze: Fully agree that this is not what determined his win. I am not trying to take that away from him. I am saying that the Chidori is what Sasuke used to nuliffy the bombs.

eh ? i never know sasuke use sharingan to copy chidori am pretty sure kakashi teach him that move, and sasuke merely follow kakashi teaching at that time,
and also there is no need to learn rasengan to master chidori,

since chidori is the combination of mid chakra shape manipulation(not as advance like rasengan which already the highest level of chakra shape manipulation)
and nature chakra manipulation.

That's what I thought. Sasuke only needed to be able to concentrate it enough to hold it or whatever, it still sparks around randomly. Its not as sophisticated as rasengan and doesn't need to be.

Agreed that Kakashi is the only one who could teach him chidori, however I believe his affinity or one of them is lightning so he would have learned some form of lightning jutsu along the way....wasn't it said that all jounin had to know at least 2 affinities? Can't remember, think it was back when Kakashi was teaching naruto how to use his wind affinity.

Not exactly.
