Excuus me, who got elected but Hashirama? Hiruzen was chosen by Tobirama. Tsunade got accepted after Jman refused. So when did the ppl of Konoha get to choose their Hokage?
Again, Konoha 11 know almost nothing, they have only seen the good side of the village. Sasuke stepping up and claiming the highest position in Konoha is a good thing.

Things like being traitor, criminal are just labels, ones he saves few lifes in this war than most of them will calm down.

Every hokage is voted for by the Jounin of the village. Danzo is not considered a hokage because he died before the village voted. Selecting a hokage is a joint process between the daimyo and the Jounin of the village.

Hashirama was elected by the village, as was Tobirama.

Its been established by Tobirama and Itachi that the village chooses its leader.

Hashirama wanted Madara to be Hokage, and Hashi didn't want to be Hokage, and look how that went.

If the village doesn't trust Sasuke, he won't get the job, its as simple as that.
