Well the fact Sasuke mentions that Itachi graduated in one year means he wants to accomplish the same thing, which means it was still possible via that system. Now concerning what her mother said, i think she wasn't refering to the academy system but to current situation in the village. They were in peace, so no need to overdo it. It's even what she says on the pic. There is definitely something weird concerning it since he graduated even at the same age Naruto gradurated when its said he failed plenty of times

We can't say for sure what happened after the massacre, so maybe it's from that moment that he began to fail and no i'm starting a flame war

Sasuke entered the academy at the age of 7. And we know that he only became genin(graduated) at the age of 12. Does it mean that during 5years, he was always failing the exams or am i missing something?

May be it takes at least five years to pass the academy.... Sasuke would hav trained in academy for five years.. same goes for every one

May be the graduation depends on individual skills so one might take time to graduate n so on... or else sometng must hav happnd.. am not sure guys

All these arguments still dont match up with the fact that Naruto failed to graduate several times yet was in the same class as other kids of his age
Now if he failed to graduate many times then the others in his class could have graduated before or in this case Sasuke
