I figured I'd post this before we find out what happened in the past.
Note: I will leave some information out and filter it. I will also mix legends with fact to show how I think Kishi is using this family's story in his manga.
I believe that Sasuke's family is loosely based on the Minamoto family:
Minamoto no Tameyoshi (Setsuna Uchiha*)
Minamoto no Yo****omo (Fugaku Uchiha)
*Setsuna was the leader of the anti-Senju faction during the second Hokage's reign.
Hōgen Rebellion (The first Uchiha uprising.)
So Fugaku helped stop the first Uchiha rebellion by siding with the Hokage.
Heiji Rebellion (The events leading up to and the Uchiha Massacre)
Fugaku became angry that the Senju were favored and followed in his fathers footsteps, which led to the Uchiha massacre. Afterwards Itachi was exiled.
Minamoto no Yoritomo (Itachi Uchiha)
After the Uchiha massacre
Not much I want to go into here. His story seems to be complete in the Manga.
Minamoto no Yo****sune is Sasuke Uchiha.

Eventually Taira (Senju), defeated (Fugaku) Yo****omo and killed his eldest sons(The Uchiha being killed). Yo****omo (Fugaku) was betrayed and killed (by Itachi).

Yoritomo he was exiled. The (Senju)Taira clan were now the undisputed leaders of Japan(Land of fire). Minamoto no Yo****sune(Sasuke), was forced to enter a monastery(Hidden leaf ninja system).
Minamoto no Yo****sune is Sasuke Uchiha.
About Yoshisune:
He is considered one of the greatest and the most popular warriors of his era, and one of the most famous samurai fighters in the history of Japan. The legends that deal with his public career show Yo****sune as a great, virtuous warrior. He was often shown as kind to those around him and honorable, but he was also shown as short-tempered, tactless, blunt, and naive and was also said to be able to easily sway the hearts of young women.
Legends which pertain to his time when his brother, Yoritomo (Itachi), has turned against him, take away some of Yo****sune’s(Sasuke) heroic qualities.

Yo****sune (Sasuke) was born during the Heiji Rebellion (The Uchiha's plot to take over the Leaf). His life was spared and he was put under the care of Kurama Temple (Hidden Leaf), while Yoritomo (Itachi) was banished. Eventually, Yo****sune (Sasuke) was put under the protection of Fujiwara no Hidehira(The Third Hokage).
Yo****sune (Sasuke) heard that Yoritomo (Itachi), had raised an army (Akatsuki) to fight against the Taira (Senju) clan which had usurped the power of the emperor (Hokage).
When Yo****sune (Sasuke) was a young boy going by the name of Ushiwaka-maru, his father, Yo****omo, was assassinated. The head of the Taira(Senju), allowed the child to survive on the grounds that he be exiled to the temple on Mount Kurama (That fox...) and become a monk(Ninja). But one day in the Sōjō-ga-dani Valley, Ushiwaka (Sasuke) encountered the mountain's tengu, Sōjōbō(Orochimaru). This spirit taught the boy the art of swordsmanship so that he might bring vengeance on the Taira (Usually the Senju, but here it refers to Itachi).

Later on Yo****sune (Sasuke) joined along with Minamoto no Noriyori (His half brother), brothers who had never before met were united in the last of three conflicts known as the Genpei War (The current war).
Yep, Yo****omo (Fugaku) had three surviving sons.
