Not really, he didn't know how the cursed seal worked until Juugo told him about it, he didn't even know what Senjutsu was until Naruto told him about it.

Clearly Orochimaru never told him how it worked or very much about it.

He didn't know how it worked but he had been effectively using it since part one. It's like teaching someone Rasangan, but not telling him the name, wouldn't affect the mastery over the technique. It doesn't even make any sense.

He doesn't have to know much of anything these days. He had no problem handling the natural energy from the cure mark or the energy he got from Jugo for the Sage Susano'o.
