Everyone keeps saying how Sasukes decision doesn't make any sense, however it really does.
First of all, Naruto and Sasuke are rivals.
Sasuke is an Anti-Hero.
Those two need a reason to be rivals, since Sasuke is currently on the good side, the reason is Hokage spot.
Sasuke just talked to 4 Hokage, 4 of the strongest shinobi that came from Konoha, ofcourse he is inspired to become a hokage, even if just a little.
Sasuke just loves to make Naruto angry, however Naruto has matured and did not react the way Sasuke might of have expected.
Sasuke wants to personally make sure that nobody is forced to go through what Itachi went through.
He wants to make Itachi proud.
Also a big part is that all the hokages were in a way Senju, he wants to break that "discrimination" against Uchiha clan.
All of those together form a pretty solid reason why Kishi decided for Sasuke to become Narutos rival for the title of Hokage.

I can see why Sasuke wants to become Hokage, but him succeeding is another matter entirely.

I think that the main reason this is all happening is to set up the fight between them.

He's still got to apologize to the Raikage.

They're going to fight either way even if they have nothing that big to fight for. Sasuke wanted to fight Naruto in the Chunin exams not to become a Chunin but to see who's strongest.

That would be anti climatic, for a good fight there usually has to be stakes. Naruto and Sasuke are rivals and this is an action manga, they are going to have a serious fight, otherwise it would be boring and lack any real suspense.

You know what would be even worse ? Last chapter being those about to fight, and as they charge in the manga ends. That would be the worst ending to both manga and Naru-Sasu rivalry possible.

Yeah it does, Sasuke wanting to protect the village without any other motive would make even less sense. He won't be though, I guess that is what Naruto had to help Sasuke understand, he must be acknowledged first.

I agree with you, but I thought Sasuke as a villain had so much wasted potential. The 5 Kage arc and killing Danzo had me excited.

Man screw the Raikage.

Yeah, Sasuke can beat him easily now.

As for the thread, you're right. I mean, if Sasuke didn't told K11 that he wants to be Hokage, there wouldn't be any reason for Sasuke and Naruto to fight. I doubt that they will for the title of the Hokage anyway, but I hope there are 3rd part of the series, I want to see them first becoming Chunin, probably at the end of Part 2, and then in Part 3 to be Jonins with their own squad etc, and at the end - one of them, maybe both, becoming Hokage.

Sasuke's decision is the natural conclusion of him deciding to return to Konoha. He wants to return to the village but also to change it forever because the village as it is has inflicted so much pain on him. Honestly most of us foresaw that Sasuke would challenge Naruto for the title of Hokage because it made sense with what Kishimoto foreshadowed - that Naruto and Sasuke were going to fight one final time and that Naruto becoming Hokage would be the end of the series. Since Sasuke decided to protect the Leaf, months ago, this was the only possible conclusion.

Whoever said it doesn't make sense isn't making any sense.

Sasuke clearly forgot that and no matter what everyone says his reasons are to be Hokage they aren't validated by the people that once called him comrade and friend besides Naruto and Sakura

I'm not saying that Sasuke should win the title, I am saying that he coming to that conclusion makes sense.

I still think Kishimoto is doing this to give everyone Naruto Vs Sasuke..He's using the Sasuke decision as a motivate for the fight

I'm not denying this, I am merely saying it doesn't feel forced to me. After all he had to hear and see to decide to return to Konoha, if he hadn't shown a strong determination in changing Konoha it would have been much more forced, to me.
