i love the fact that when base sasuke used katon naruto was forced to go rikudo handout mode. the action implies that naruto would have died if he was hit by the jutsu while in his lower forms (SM, KCM, BM, BSM) regardless of blocking.

and that was just in base, people. BASE.

Sasuke isn't in base mode. He has his Sharingan activated and Rinnegan activated. If he were in base his Sharingan eye would be deactivated and his Rinnegan eye would be closed. Naruto was in base mode, and figured the most effective way to block the attack would be to use chakra arms - which is exactly what he did.

After Naruto blocked Fireball Sasuke jumped Naruto's back.
Imagine if Naruto tried to tank the attack or tried to dodge it and Sasuke jumped than.

If he tried to tank it he would be slower and distracted and Sasuke would've used that chance to at least injure Naruto.
If he tried to dodge it since Naruto would be on move already, because of the momemtum his body gained it would be difficult to move on a different way incase Sasuke jumped.
Blocking the attack before it get to you was the best choice of action and Naruto done well not to give any opening.
