Though, I will say that this manga would be so much more boring if Sasuke never existed. Haters can hate him all they want but something good about his character is that he always moves the plot forward when it's needed. When Sasuke goes on one of many 3-6 month hiatus's, usually the manga gets rather stale and people just can't wait until he shows up again. For example with the whole Edo Hokages, and when he Awakened EMS.
