His bandages in "The Last" show up the arm as well so it is probably not the Sun seal and is representing serious injury.

I don't, but based on previous manga and knowing how Kishimoto likes to repeat history it stands to reason that he experiences some trauma. Also, because the bandages extend at least to the entire forearm by Kishi's sample drawings. Also, it's good storytelling.
