but you could say it wasn't a fair fight since naruto had the element of surprise.

But then if that's the case you gotta look at all those other fights and notice that naruto went into the first VoTe after getting his chakra absorbed by jirobou, fighting the other sound 4 for a bit, and using a ton of chakra against kidoumaru, and even then unlike Sasuke he wasn't trying to kill.

He had Kyuubi to heal him whilst Sasuke had nothing.

Sasuke had basically killed Naruto when he punctured his lung but Kurama intervened & healed Naruto.

Physically aspect, the fighters physical condition after the fight. Injuries, etc.

And the deeper meaning -- why they were fighting. Naruto won Vote 2's battle of idealism because he made Sasuke forfeit his way of thinking. However physically they were in the same condition.
