Well for starters, brothers are usually people that you can look up to for protection, and not expected to kill your whole family.

Sasuke had a very bad childhood but he eventually made friends and started to enjoy life (until his inferiority complex started kicking in but he could have just abandoned getting revenge on Itachi for a happier life which Kakashi tried to tell him).

Trunks lived every day of his life in fear. All hope was lost when Gohan died. Gohan was not only a sensei to him but a best friend and a brother. Gohan was also the only person who could ever stand up to the Androids and give them a good fight. Trunks awakened Super Saiyan and still got battered and dominated. Until Bulma created the time machine, Trunks felt nothing but fear and had lost all hope for the world regaining peace.

He even witnessed his own master and greatest friend, Gohan, get destroyed. He could only be destroyed by the Androids or go back in time and try to change the future.

Trunks by far. His family and friends were all killed. Gohan was the only one he had left and he got killed aswell. He didn't even know his own dad as Vegeta was killed when Trunks was a baby. Sasuke had Team 7 and plenty of friends (whom he took for granted) Trunks lived in complete fear of the androids all his life and had to look over his shoulders where ever he went. The sad thing is that Trunks couldn't do shit to stop the androids.

I agree with everything but the bold. He wanted Fugaku, their father to acknowledge him. In the manga, we actually see Itachi attempting to spend time with Sasuke anytime he can when he's not on missions. We also see him teach him a few things as well and cheer him up a few times.
