If Naruto manages to be Hokage before Sasuke, Sasuke will never be Hokage, because Naruto's lifespan is far larger than Sasuke's, so Sasuke will die before Naruto is done with it.

Naruto is the destined child that will lead the world. Being hokage he can't lead the world through peace. Your right Naruto's goal for being hokage was to be acknowledged by the village and to be stronger than the other hokages. At 16 he's the strongest person alive at the moment. When he gains Kurama's other half of chakra he'll be twice as powerful.

Sasuke's gone through the mistakes of the previous hokage. He almost went down the path of Madara and Obito but was corrected. Being hokage will bring honor to the Uchiha clan too.

I think Naruto knows to let Sasuke become hokage or he will figure it out when he and Sasuke have their faited fight.

Sasuke going for Hokage makes more sense, because he wants to correct all the previous Hokage's mistakes, and he wants to make sure there won't be another "Itachi" as a scapegoat, to cover for the village's corrupt political system.

He wants to change the village's system itself, which is the beginning of all problems.

I think their goal is essentially the same, they have had had the same life. But Sasuke being intelligent I would believe make him more fitting.

His resolve is pretty clear, but it's nothing Naruto hasn't fought for already.

It's pretty hard to determine who is the fittest hokage right now.

Sasuke:

+ Has the intelligence (out of the battlefield, of course)
+ Has the reasons
+ Very strong
+ Has the Will of Itachi
- Way to go before being Hokage... he still needs to care about what other thinks about him. This will lead him to the will of fire.

Naruto:

+ Has the aknowledgment
+ He is mature
+ Very strong
+ Has the Will of Fire
- Needs the reasoning...

So, his goal has always been to have the title Hokage

Or maybe, for once, the Uchiha should be the logical ones, and accept that Naruto (during Madara's era it was Hashirama) deserves the position. Sasuke should accept that the best he can get is right hand man, and then try for Seventh. Sasuke does not in any way deserve the position of Sixth Hokage. If he does become Sixth it would be complete bullshit.

Naruto pretty much has the position there waiting to be picked up. Even after Pain, many of the villagers wanted him to become Hokage. Naruto is the embodiment of "the light", as Konan told Obito. He makes you want to believe in him, and that is what every good leader should do.

Naruto has the respect of all five Kage. He's already close friends with Gaara. They've all acknowledged him and are friendly with him.

Furthermore, not only is he the hero of Konoha, he is also pretty much the hero of the world. Every single shinobi in the Shinobi Alliance owes him their lives (with the possible exception of B). After Madara defeated the five Kages, and before the four Hokages arrived, Naruto was, pretty much, the de facto leader of the Shinobi Alliance.

Now, on to Sasuke. Naruto will, no doubt, welcome him back in the village. But Hokage? Even if Naruto were to turn down the post, the Fire Daimyo / Tsunade would nominate someone else (e.g. Kakashi). Even though he's joined the Shinobi Alliance, Sasuke is still an S-Rank international criminal with a huge criminal record. There is no way he could be Hokage, no matter how fitting you think he is. The Council would never appoint him, and the villagers would never vote him in.

Naruto will be the Sixth Hokage. Sasuke MAY become Seventh.

What darkness the only thing that naruto went through as a kid was people didn't want to play him, that was so hard to over come. naruto had an easy life because after he joined team 7 people started liking so really tell what is this darkness you speak of

Excuse me? Naruto had an easy life? He was alone ever since being born. Anybody and everybody he saw shunned him or outright hated him.

He was always alone, and lived in a crappy apartment.

Compared to... Sasuke? I mean, don't get me wrong, to have your family killed is a horrible event, and Sasuke's life was by no means easy, but compare it to Naruto? He was always viewed as a prodigy, and the darling of the village. Everything was handed to him on a silver platter.

Naruto's pain and suffering > Sasuke's pain and suffering.

I'd like to think the Naruto is more like Jiraiya (spelling) in that duty will always become between himself and the position of Hokage. I'm sure he would be happy to have the role but I've always interpreted his desire to be Hokage as a somewhat selfish ambition to be acknowledged by his peers. He has grown from this recently, but it is possible that Sasuke has more life experience enabling him to understand what the role and village actually mean (t this point in time).

Tsunade went off for who knows how many years - official leave granted or no - and earned the title 'Legendary Sucker'. An alcoholic with a chronic gambling problem, leaving debts all over the place (nice sense of honour, eh?) who refused to reside in her village or do... well, anything to support/help them.

... and yet she became Hokage.

He's an S-ranked criminal, true. But the fact Tsunade (even as a favour to Naruto) granted him sme mercy and didn't call for his head will mean something to others also.
Means she had faith in his redemption, his ability to turn around and that he was too important to just throw away.

His crimes as an S-ranked criminal are somewhat insignifcant on the grand scale of things. He killed Itachi, an S-ranked criminal. Oro as well, Deidara... umm. Okay the Kage summit is an issue but no Kage is innocent either and if they're able to forgive one another then they can forgive Sasuke.

Yeah, I've been saying this for a while now.

I think Naruto at this point only wants to become Hokage so he can beat Sasuke. Naruto is a star, everyone loves him. He's been acknowledged ever since pain. And after the war, he'll be known throughout the ninja world as a hero. He's a star. He's also surpassed the Hokages, except the first.

To Sasuke this is much more then a "dream" - it's way more personal to him. He doesn't want this current situation and the hell his brother and himself went through to happen to anyone else ever again. After the whole history lesson by Hashi, it somewhat does make sense.

The problem is that almost everyone in the Narutoverse hates Sasuke. After the war, he'll probably be captured and locked up. And even if he did not have his crimes, he doesn't exactly have the best attitude for Hokage. "I don't care what you think of me"

Still his goal does seem more "deep" then Naruto's at this point of time.

Well everyone has good points. But we are all looking at specific parts and not looking at the possible plot twists. Naruto would make a great Hokage. He has Kurama to help him potentially Konoha would be protected from a lot of possibilities of war and he's learned a lot throughout the series. Sasuke has also learned a lot throughout the series and has rid the village of problems(hidden or apparent) Danzo, Deidara,Orochimaru and Itachi. Sure Sasuke has committed crimes that are great but he is now standing in for the gap left by the Uchiha massacre. And now Sasuke has come back to Konoha and is fighting for them. Naruto has been fighting for them the entire time but now with the two of them the village is very well set. And a lot of people are saying Sasuke would be a bad leader based on his leadership qualities. But who exactly knows what he learned when he was training with Orochimaru. After all, he was able to assemble the perfect team for the mission ahead, take other criminals and change his judgment for the best ( not being easily swayed). Masashi might do it for the simple reason that no Uchiha have become Hokage and Sasuke would be perfect for the job. I'm with Sasuke on this one. But it would be better if both could be hokage. Maybe as a team like the Raikage and Killer B.
