I don't see how the Sage giving them his power is an asspull.Naruto and Sasuke are his sons reincarnations.His sons received half his power which was passed on throught their bloodline to Naruto and Sasuke.And it was foreshadowed that the Sage would come when the Bijuus become the Juubi (Chapter 573),then he deos and gives Naruto and Sasuke half his power,ofcourse they got the half that matches there's.
