So far, i'm glad he's not a whiny emo anymore and is actually doing something good for a change. Can't wait for the hokages to go into the battlefield. Maybe Minato will give naruto the other half of the chakra now?
I was really hoping that this was going to be the answer. All of us had expected Sasuke to become the "big bad" at the end and have an epic final fight with Naruto. Maybe that will still happen, but Sasuke's character arc has been going in the other direction for a long time now. Ever since the fight with Danzo on the bridge it seemed like Sasuke was starting to crack a little bit. Sure he appeared to be very evil (even stabbing Karin in cold blood), but then he made a promise to Naruto not to kill anybody else from the leaf village and THEN after getting Itachi's eyes he seemed to turn on Obito by killing white Zetsu.
After meeting Edo Itachi and fighting Kabuto, it's been pretty clear to me that Sasuke was not heading down the darkest possible path anymore. He wanted revenge for Itachi, but he had already gotten most of that revenge by killing Danzo, so there wasn't a lot of motivation for him to keep fighting the Leaf village. With this last confirmation from Hashirama, (and just now, confirmation from Tobirama that he doesn't hate the Uchiha outright), Sasuke appears to want to help the allies in the war effort.
I think there are still some accounts that need to be settled. I think we are still going to see Sasuke need to make some changes and get some "revenge" against the village, though I don't think it will be bloody or violent. He will, however, need to find a way to elevate Itachi to be recognized as a hero, and get some kind of recompense for the massacre of the Uchiha. How he (and Naruto) will decide to do that is anybodys guess.
IF Sasuke returns to the battlefield in a time of desperate need and IF he plays a large role and shows himself to be a hero, I think Sasuke's crimes will be forgiven and he (and his clan) will be redeemed. If Sasuke demonstrates himself to be the most powerful person on the battlefield, I think it's very likely that he would be considered as a contender for Hokage after Tsunade dies (and I think she will die). The other 4 hokage will see Sasuke, forgive him, recognize him as a hero, and this will be the motivation for Sasuke to become a respected and beloved Hokage.
Naruto, if he keeps getting more powerful, is going to give up being Hokage, instead taking a larger role in promoting world peace and helping the Bijuu to be free and live their own lives.
I think we're in store for a few very awesome new chapters in the months ahead.
