He is really still evil, there is no doubt about it in my mind. Sasuke is going to go insane again after Madara either convinces him to join his side, or after Madara dies and Sasuke just becomes angry with revenge.

The sage isn't a god he can't read peoples minds, Sasuke is like Madara and has a god complex and thinks that everything he does is good.

Why would you want Sasuke to be good he is boring when teaming up with Naruto. Think of the Obito battle it just felt so strange watching them team up, it is better, you can tell Sasuke hates Naruto still. Sasuke is better as an antagonist.

If Naruto was able to read good/evil intent, I'd hope the Sage could too and wouldn't have given Sasuke his power if he sensed evil.

That said, it would certainly be interesting if the Sage didn't agree with Sasuke's answer or sensed something disagreeable in him (not quite evil....Sasuke was never evil he just did what he needed to do without regard for what was universally accepted as "good" or "evil").... but gave him his power anyway to correct his previous mistake of choosing one approach to peace over another. Maybe he just decided to have faith in both his sons and hope they'll reach some sort of compromise.

The Sage doesn't know Sasuke's true motives. He gave Sasuke his power because he doesn't want to make the same mistake he made with Ashura and Indra. He's treating them both as equals and passing teaching along to both of them. Hoping that Sasuke will make the right decision with that power.

He's not good nor evil, he just has a darker way of approaching things

That means he's an Anti-Villain. That still means he's evil just not in the way that a true villain is evil in.
