No. He doesn't care what people think of him.

He has no attention of killing Naruto. He wants to get rid of the ttailed Basts+hokages.
Naruto doesn't want that.
They're not going to kill each other.
Sasuke wants to rid of the beasts because they could be use as weapons and start wars and what not (Remember what Obito did with the Nine Tails?). THAT is what Sasuke is trying to prevent.

Kishimoto made him stupid in this last chapter. Before that, he was a misguided narcissist EMO, but kishimoto had always made him seem intelligent at least. But to try force his will when he now knows the truth tanks any ability to think properly and destroys any chance at redeeming the character. Suckske will never be Sasuke again.
