OT: Sasuke has Hogaromo level ability = check.

Rinnegan grants the user access to the 6 paths = check.

People are right he's not Hogaromo, he's the new sage of 6 paths. I say this while confirming I'm not a Sasuke fan. Hogaromo was known as the sage of 6 paths for having the rinnegan( granter of 6 paths) not being the Jyubi Jin as far as I'm aware.

Seriously, people seem to always forget something in order to make things more convenient for them.

Having the same powers as the sage doesn't make you his successor. Have people really forgotten about the sage's real teachings and who actually succeeded in realising it?

The answer is Ninshu and the one who realised it was Naruto.

You can't be his successor if you don't even follow his teachings and that is exactly why he chose Ashura over Indra and wanted Indra to support Ashura.

He gave both Naruto and Sasuke power in order to not make the same mistake as he did in the past, but he still chose Naruto as his successor and already had a suspicion that Sasuke might turn on Naruto in the end. That's why he said he knew things would turn out that way.

It was Naruto who told the sage that he wasn't going to let them be the same as Ashura and Indra.

Now Naruto as his successor has Sasuke as his support, just like how the sage wanted it to be for his children.

EDIT: Also, Naruto resembled the sage more than Sasuke, even surpassed him:

Used his chakra to connect people and made them understand each other, succeeding what the sage failed to do = check.

Made friend with the bijuu and received a power that was unlike what the sage had before with the Juubi (Said by the sage) = check.

Stopped a brotherly feud that was started by the sage = Check.

Sealed Kaguya, along with Sasuke, just like how the sage did with his brother = Check (Naruto was even being shown in place of Hagoromo, while Sasuke was in place of Hamura)
