Hey guys! First and foremost, this is NOT a fanboy based thread where I will spill my guts hypothetically filled with Sasuke-loving emotions, no. The title was to get the attention Sasuke fans, and Sasuke fan-boy haters who'd LOVE to character bash and criticize me for squirting my fallacious fanboy juices all over the base. But without further ado...

Some people have claimed that Sasuke's inability to remain stable makes him a bad character. First let me evaluate this argument.

Sasuke betrayed the village for power and revenge.
Sasuke got his power and revenge.
Sasuke turns against the village.
Sasuke goes neutral.
Sasuke sides back with the village.

Sasuke DID have a couple changes of heart, however lets look at why by evaluating Sasuke's character:

Sasuke is not one to take truth at face value. Sasuke is like a child in a world of adults that tell children what truth is and what to be with the simple justification of, "because I say so." All the other shinobi around Sasuke's age may accept face-truth, however Sasuke always wanted to know more and know why, which is the primary attribute of a critical thinker.

Sasuke witnessed Itachi slaughter his clan; justifiable enough, he seeks revenge.

Sasuke defects from the leave village because Itachi pushed him to seek power through hate, and Sasuke is not a bad person so the reason he felt at one point that Naruto was getting stronger, was because truly he is not one to rely on hatred(evident in the the Uchiha as a loving clan).

Sasuke gets his revenge, and becomes neutral. He has no real reason to return to the leaf since his only purpose in life was to get revenge for the Uchiha.

Sasuke is told the "truth". He didn't simply believe what Obito/Madara said because he said it. Obito/Madara had enough hard facts to back up the truth about the village to a point where Sasuke would believe it without seeming like a "believing anything" child. If you recall, Sasuke did reject this idea many times even while Obito/Madara backed up his claim with facts. This is reason enough to turn against the village since Obito/Madara's claim was 90 percent truth, and a 10 percent lie of omission(leaving out the part where Obito was responsible for the Nine-Tails attack. Lies of omission are the hardest to spot since they aren't mentioned.

Sasuke then goes neutral after hearing Itachi's words. He sought Itachi, seeking more truth. And got the truth through the first-person view of Itachi, via the Mangekyo Sharingan. This leads to Sasuke seeking truths that no other shinobi ever sought.

Sasuke hears everything about Madara everything about Shinobi and the village, and even the dark secrets of his own clan. Although Sasuke still doesn't know that Obito was behind the attack, it makes no difference since he may still find out, and it would only be more reason for him to inherit Itachi's will. Hashirama's argument was a causal argument mixed with a moral argument, his evidence was the strongest since he knows damn near everything.

In conclusion, Sasuke is not "wish-washy", he simply seeks the truth and doesn't take anybody's words at face value. He is a critical thinker and a pessimist. Instead of emotional words, Sasuke wants facts and hard evidence. It is for this reason that I claim, Sasuke is a good character.

Thanks.

To me Sasuke seems like Itachi. They both had a goal that twisted them up inside and in the end found peace. They both did things that were good for the village; kill a clan to quell an uprising and kill a man who is scum and a drag on the village overall. Sasuke just imitated what Itachi did if you look at the base of what happened.

Good effort............but the children of NB are too small minded and immature to understand this.

Using all caps and writing an excessive amount is a recipe for success here.

Yes. :| That was the only purpose of the thread.

No...the purpose of the thread was to argue and rebut. If all an argument was to say is Sasuke is a good character then, its not an argument its a statement, and statements don't require premises and evaluations, which I gave. Thus, this is an argument WHY Sasuke is a good character, and WHY he isn't a bad character. That's the whole point of critical thinking: ask why.

You've made very good points, and I agree. Sasuke isn't wish-washy, he's just done a lot of different things to get the answers that he sought. Well done :hooray:

Is he a good character? Meh Kishi has been messing up lately. Sasuke has lacked anything that resembles decent developmental direction since Danzo and Itachi died. After that I was like wtf? Sasuke was supposed to be the bad guy out for revenge. Forsaking everything else in pursuit of it. You weren't supposed to like him. Now? He turns good? Come on man that was weak. Find another reason to keep him evil. Its not like it would be hard to write him into the war with some ulterior motive. I never really liked Sasuke but I'm really starting to hate what he's become. It all just feels like a big sell out.

I understand your position, believe me. Sasuke being the bad guy would've made for a more emotional fight, instead of just giving the outcome the fans want. However consider this, Sasuke purpose was always revenge. Revenge was Sasuke's character ftw! Lol, but if you take revenge away from Sasuke, Kishi is really giving Sasuke the ability to act independently. I know that sounds sketch, but given Sasuke's personality, what he's doing isn't out of character.
