Wow, since he is the only Uchiha that's really alive and he was 7 and had no training from any Uchiha, I'm pretty sure there's a logically reason....
Also it's also save to say he is far stronger than Obito and Itachi without even knowing all of the Uchiha facts, I mean if he has EMS now and he would have known everything like Danzo'em (and he isn't even an Uchiha and he's OP af) Sasuke would be r@ping Madara by now and probably be on Naruto's side.

He probably knows about it from the tablet even if he never saw it because he stopped by the Naka shrine after getting his EMS.
I think it goes like this:
.If you have a 3 tomoe sharingan, you know how to get the MS.
.When you have an MS, you know how to get the EMS.
.When you have an EMS, you know how to get the Rinnegan.
All from the tablet. Otherwise, why would Madara transplant his brother's eyes into himself if he didn't know the method to get an EMS?
