Sasuke copied Itachi's jutsu

During the Chunin exams when Sasuke first used the curse mark against that air pressure guy, Sasuke used Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique. And when Itachi was recarnated and fought Chakra mode Naruto, he used the same jutsu. And I've only seen Sasuke and Itachi do this jutsu, so could've Itachi taught this jutsu to Sasuke?

Why couldn't his father teach it to him? I believe Sasuke learnt it on his own since it was one of those signature techniques.
