They were actually both suppose to die neither is stronger than the other what have you ppl been watching.the reason Sasuke gave up is because he realize that he isn't more stubborn or determine than Naruto. Instead of keeping going against his friends wishes he decided to cope to them. It wasn't Naruto's strength that defeat Sasuke in the final battle it was his determination and perseverance. He saw in him the same thing tht he saw in Itachi someone who loved him no matter all the wrong decisions he made. Same goes for Sakura too. Guess at tht moment when they are laying down and here arms are blown off he has a moment of Clarity.
