Hiruzen retired because he was old.

It was never stated once in the entire manga that they ruled jointly.

You could say the same about Hashi and Madara, Hashirama wanted Madara to be Hokage and the village chose him instead.

Its not Naruto's decision on who becomes Hokage, if he gets it he is stuck with it.

Right now I am surprised that sasuke wants to help a village that turned his brother into S-Rank criminal and has wronged his clan. No villager(including K11) no the truth about their village. It just turned out that the uchihas became their scapegoat and yes this includes sasuke. Sasuke has gone through a roller coaster of emotions trying to figure things out. Now that he thought for himself, he has decided to help his village(konoha) so that past events won't occur. Right now a lot of people are blindly hating on sasuke because of what he has done, but hate on him for what he has done is to accept that everything that konoha has done is just. I believe that naruto will be hokage and sasuke will be hokage because they will develop a new governing system that requires two leaders since two heads are better than one.
