As a Sasuke fan myself, I hate the people who defend him.
Sasuke is a realistic character in that he doesn't remain optimistic in the face of his ****ed up past. I'm not saying it's not possible for people to be optimistic in the face of tragedy, but it's not common. Sasuke's initial reaction of being obsessed with killing Itachi is more along the lines of what most people would do. His descent is also realistic, after all by that point he's been influenced by Orochimaru for the previous three years after finding out the truth about Itachi, that he just killed the one man who unconditionally and truly loved him with all his being (though itachi's love was probably too intense, and not healthy, it was also a fair and realistic reaction). All this, however, does not excuse Sasuke's actions. Sasuke is a terrible human being. No matter how terrible a person's past is, nothing can excuse their actions, only explain. I think it's possible to love Sasuke's character, feel sympathy for him, and admit that he's ****ing horrible and that if I met him in real life I'd probably attack him. But as a character, it's been enjoyable seeing his descent and in a real person-character way, i can say I like him.
But the fans who try to outright justify his actions, even claiming that his plan to destroy the leaf was right, are batshit. Though I agree that killing Danzo was warranted (there's another ****up that I love), past that there was little that Sasuke could do for real revenge. Everything past that was him not knowing how to manage his emotions.
