Gaara was able to bind madara's movements with sand. That's a lot easier with puppets when all he needs to do is put sand into the joints and keep it there. Doesn't matter if he needs to actively keep the sand in place seeing as gaara can do many things at once and the fight will already be over U_U

Sasori has better battle mechanism, heavier sand and stronger which he can with ease penetrate through his defense. Even without intel, he should know what he uses is sand (obvious?). Since iron sand is heavier, he can use Nidaime's strategy to slow down his sand even if it's a tsunami [

If Gaara flies, then Sasori flies as well given that he can change the sand into any kind of property. Gaara may have faster attacks, but that doesn't matter if Sasori uses a shield of Satetsu. With less density, Gaara's attack have zero chances to pierce it.
