Hmm, I have a theory that it's because he fought Sakura. Everything she touches seems to turn to fail.
Sasori was strong, but pitting him against Sakura (even with old lady medical legend controlling her and dying) makes Sasori somewhat anti-climactic. Also he didn't feature in the story for long which is possibly why he's so underrated.
