To be honest, I think Hiruzen will be shown again if one or both of the Elders die.

Actually I'm pretty serious, when I say that Hiru is easily top 3.. I bet that if you say otherwise, you haven't been reading Naruto from before the time skip came - meaning when you started you read till the time skip in a week and probably much more U_U
Using bad excuses about Edo Hashirama being too weak or whatever, and that Hiru didn't beat them - he sealed them.. Well he did split up his strength in 3 and yet he was able to hold hashi from performing hand seals thus allowing his seal to work U_U and this is as an old geezer..
Unfortunately Hiru was never shown after the time skip, but the time skip did something to the manga. It improved every single shinobi by a factor ten or much more.. What if Hiruzen was improved the same?
We see Oro fight Hiru, Oro appears pretty weak? Yes he did. If he had the same jutsu he fought Naruto 4 tails with, he wouldn't even NEED 2 hokages and his arms... That is, if Hiru got no improvement.
So is it realistic that Oro without arms and sickness get so much improved 2 years after his fight with Hiru? Well that is cause of Kishis time skip hack U_U or perhaps investors demands of greater fighting scenes (more likely).
So imagine Hiru if we saw him in a flashback after the timeskip, perhaps one from Tsunade? If Tsunade dies, which a lot suggests, we are surely going to see some flashback. Perhaps we will see the full strength of the 3rd hokage - Sarutobi Hiruzen - in his prime, as the God of shinobi. Perhaps I can say "I told you so" to countless of people. Perhaps the legend of Sarutobi Hiruzen will finally appear in realistic versus threads..
Perhaps not depends on whether tsunade dies or not! But the next anime is about Tsunade and when she was younger. I am certain they are doing this for a reason. We will see what happens to Tsunade next chapter.

Also when Iruka said he is the strongest Hokage to the students. Hiruzen replied with "Hey, Iruka!! Don't use past tense!!" Hiruzen IMPLIED he that he was the strongest in his prime. Plus Hiruzen was taught by both the 1st and 2nd. He'd probably know about their techniques and how to counter them plus Orochimaru perfected Edo already!
We'll see prime Hiruzen possibly in a flash back or if this happens.
