Sarutobi Hiruzen knew a way/tech to stop an Edo Tensei Shinobi being summoned?

Ok so this may be a stupid question but i never fully understood what exactly did Hiruzen do to "stop" the third coffin from being summoned/activated? Did he use some secret jutsu? Did the Shuriken tech he used just moments before Orochimaru used ET had something to do with it? Some say the third summon simply failed because it was Minato in there and because his soul was sealed away it could not work BUT what if the third coffin was Uchiha Madara?

I remember reading something like "I must stop the third one at any cost" in the manga.

So is there a way of stopping an Edo Tensei summon before it is even activated??

He tried to "stop it" by destroying the coffin somehow but the coffin left anyway. Minato soul was in the Demon God so it didnt work. Hiruzen knew that if Minato was summoned somehow that he will definitely lose.

The 69 year old Hiruzen was rather weak, yes. But according to manga Hiruzen in his prime was a beast. We'll just have to wait and see i guess...

On topic, I think its just retconned at thus point. Yes, he did say he had to stop it,then did seals, and it stopped. He believed he stopped it, but we eventually find out that nobody can be summoned from Reaper's intestinal tract. I think it's just a minor goof, or poor foresight on Kishi's point. Current cannon states that they cannot be brought back if their souls were sealed somehow.

Oh he is a fodder, How come he can beat a full powered Orochimaru despite being old aged. While battling the 1st/2nd hokages seems like a fodder.
