I don't know if someone has already stated this, but here is my theory. I think the reason why Sarada was with Sakura in the first place is because Sakura can't have children due to the Yin Seal.
It's a stretch, but I feel since the Yin Seal grants you immortality if used properly, expect aging cause she has clearly gotten older, then there is some price to pay like having a miscarriage or just not being able to reproduce all together.
Sakura did save Karin once, and Karin did help protect everyone by fighting in the war so they must have had some type of exchange with Sakura taking Sarada to Konoha for decent training and a normal life because Karin has to stay in one of Orochimaru's hideouts, which isn't the ideal place to raise a child and with Orochimaru still running around, no one knows if he's actually become COMPLETELY good and sane or just pretending. She most likely wanted to protect her child from a POSSIBLE Orochimaru threat because he might want Sarada like he wanted Sasuke, possibly, and Sakura had no problem with taking on Sarada.
I don't have SCANNED evidence, but I'm comparing Sakura's situation to Tsunade who clearly stayed away from having children and only wanted love. She probably knew she couldn't have children because of the Yin Seal and was just looking for a significant other. This is probably why she was always so quick to take on apprentices like Ino, Sakura, Shizune at young ages and she even loved her little brother to death as much, but that can be taken two way because that was her brother after all.
THIS can be compared to Hashirama's wife who also had the Yin Seal, but I'm specifically looking at the the Rebirth Technique that heals wounds on it's own. I don't think Hashirama's wife was a fighter, and if she was there is no evidence to when she learned the Yin Seal, so it kind of all depends on her.
