SAO question

So I just recently watched the first ep of the second sword art online series and I'm a bit confused. I haven't read the light books but I've heard the series as a whole is good. Any way two things:
1. What's the go with kirito's sister/ cousin? From what I can tell it almost seemed like she likes him romantically. I was like wtf?

2. I can see that there is a new fairy based mmorp coming up - is it handled in a decent way? I liked the first series but the idea of fairies is a bit lame to me.

What irritates me is that the intro shows them in their elf "forms" and the intro also makes it look like Kirito (not his real name) and his cousin fall for each other and Asuna looks happy with that happening.
