Advantage: Very very powerful technique. Makes sure that once trapped, the opponent wont be a problem
Disadvantage: Needs another technique to be brought in use and the sand avalance is dodgeable so less chance of success

With the sand on the training field, I channel my 80% chakra into it while focusing hard on it so that I make sure I cover the entire area. Then with my chakra control, I allow or guide the sand towards each other so that they form a base of sand around your clone as I form a structure that gets narrower towards the top.I form a pyramid of sand and then maintain my chakra into it so that the sand particles keep trapping your clones and remain rock-solid

During the whole process of the making if the pyramid, I layer the sand according to the terrain as the layer gets formed and then the pyramid shape.
This technique is badass because of its ability to trap the people and then strength of it due to the amount of sand and layers
This technique however is slow and takes time to form while the lightning or wind techs cut through it.

I wouldn't say its a slow technique, in the manga Gaara did this pretty fast.
