Well we can't have Gaara teaching Gaara.....but I think I have a solution. 
As you stand in the vast deserts of Sunagakure, the sand begins to stir. A massive amount beings to form itself into a mountainous dune in front of your very eyes and freezes for a moment before crumbling away. It reveals a terrifying form, as the Ichibi now stands before you!

As I stand listening to the wind whip across the desert, it suddenly happens. The newly formed dune, crumbles away revealing the usual angry self of my acquaintance, Shukaku the Ichibi.

I care not for reputation, Ichibi. The only thing that matters is protecting the ones who put their trust in me.
Simply put, sand is made of tiny particles of worn-down rock and earth. These particles are picked up by wind, water or the ice in glaciers and left as sediment in the ocean or as sand on land. The composition of sand varies and depends on the rocks/earth sediments that were ground down to begin this process.

Life is not worth living without love ones to protect, something you could never begin to understand.
Shinobi use sand for numerous supplementary functions ranging from concealment to disguises and attacks.
Sand is a strong element to wield due to its proficiency for both attacks and defense. Lighter minerals and finer sand make for quick attacks, where as heavy more dense sand make for strong defensive means. Though sand is subjectable to many weaknesses. Sand can be countered by mixing other substances into it such as, explosive clay which potentially harms the user, Gold dust makes the sand heavier and slower, or oil, which makes the sand crumbles very easily.
Sand differs from other elements as I can not just create it through chakra alone, tho I can make more by using sand already being manipulated by my chakra to grind down earth elements around me.

Sand is strong against fire and water as it can smother flames, an throw back/ward off water attacks.
It is weak against lightning, as sand is a earth type technique which lightning easily travels through. Lightning can also strike sand rapidly heating it and thus crystallizing the sand and becoming unmanipulatable.

It is strong against fire as you said, but not water. Water can be used like oil to saturate the sand and make it difficult to manipulate. Sand is also strong against earth.

Oh wow that thread is helpful. Never read it before. I was just going with real life were sandbags are stacked and used to ward off water during floods and such.
You and I both know your Sand is weak against, Water and Lightning. Though we have the advantage in using it against fire and earth. Now enough with the trivial pursuit, I can assure you, Ichibi I'm ready for whatever you got!!!

The sands disadvantage is also its advantage.
We are unable to conjure sand from chakra, so we are troubled with the task of carrying extra weight thus slowing our movements.
Tho at the same time, our sand is prepared and kneaded with our chakra ahead of time so if a battle should occur. The sand is ready to move immediately. Not having to take the time to conjure chakra saves time drastically.

I sit down on the previously pointed out dune.
I begin to meditate. Listening to the sound of the wind sweeping across the dunes around us, picking up sand as it continues across the desert.
I concentrate on the sand beneath me, feeling each grain almost individually as if I'm counting them.

Now since we don't have to "create" our element, unlike others, half of our work is already done for us. When we use our techniques all we need to do is use shape manipulation to sculpt the sand to our desire. So stand up and lets get started.

I stand an begin focusing on the sand. Playing with it as it molds to my desire. Almost like it hears me and knows what I want before I ask it. I begin shaping the sand, with the image of a kickball in my mind a make the sand into a hollow ball.
