What I know about Sand
Sand itself is unique to Gaara, other variations like Gold Dust[Sand] are unique to Gaara's father the 4th kazekage, although Gold Dust also has ties to the magnetism release. Shukaku [the one tailed beast] is a master of Sand, he is also made from it. Sand are both Gaara's ultimate attack and defense. Gaara can freely manipulate his sand with his chakra, able to create hands, clones and much more from it. As shown in the series Sand is weak to Lightning, according to NB water is also a weakness, rendering the Sand unusable, the 2nd Mizukage's oil was the only other thing shown to make Gaara's sand unusable.

Sand+Lightning make Magnetism

Sand users usually originate from Sunagakure

Weak against lightning since lightning pierces straight through it. When it clashes against water it'll turn into mud, making it harder for you to control it. And yes, high ranked sand is strong against fire but if it's weaker then it'll turn into glass. And wind, true; it indeed is strong against it and if you combine it you'll get a sandstorm but high ranked wind against a weaker sand technique can easily carry the sand away, all has to do with pure logic and ranks and yeah, earth. Depends on it, sand usually gets used as an supplementary element so tsunami's and such can easily bury an earth technique but it of course depends on the size etc.
