Ok ok but hear me out. Our buddy Rock Lee together with Samui. CRAZY RIGHT?! Or maybe not.
Metal Lee’s mother has been on my mind ever since chapter 700 and it’s been really hard to pin her down because Metal got so many of his father’s signature characteristics, except for a few key differences. Now, Kishi drew the new generation very deliberately to show characteristics from both parents. So I knew that the key to finding Metal’s mother was in the differences between Metal Lee and Rock Lee. And I really doubt that the mother is some random Konoha citizen just because of how big a deal Kishi is making it into (e.g. why would he make Metal’s mother a giant question mark in the family tree if she’s someone completely random).
First, the hair. Rock’s bowl cut is pretty smooth and has a different texture from Metal’s. Metal Lee’s texture is in fact similar is Samui’s (look at her bangs!!!).
Next we got to the eyeballs–aka my reasoning why Tenten is probably NOT the mother even though she’s a really popular choice to be Mrs. Rock Lee. The eye shape is one of the most striking differences between Metal and Rock. So where did Metal get his eyes? If you all remember Tenten’s eyes, they’re pretty round (just not nearly as round as Rock’s). So their child would not have the sharp angles of our little Metal. The person who DOES have the angles and intensity of Metal’s eyes is Samui. Samui’s are lidded, but imagine how wide the shape would get if they weren’t lidded. You would get Metal Lee’s eyes!
Thirdly, Metal Lee has a bit of a pout at his mouth that Rock Lee doesn’t have (and neither does Tenten for that matter). Samui does have the pout. Their mouth’s aren’t exactly the same but Metal’s mouth is VERY similar to (uncle?) Atsui’s.
Lastly, and my most debatable point, is the way Metal Lee carries himself in general. We all came to love Rock Lee for the humor in his stance and mannerisms, but that’s just not the vibe I’m getting from Metal. He has an intensity in his gaze and stance that really reminds me of Samui. But then again, that’s just from a few pictures so it might just be wishful thinking on my part.
You: “OK but really tho? Rock Lee and SAMUI of all people? In what universe could that even happen?”
I’m glad you asked and my response is Choji and Karui. Obviously Cloud/Leaf relations have changed over the years. And somehow, I don’t see Choji and Karui being in a Romeo/Juliet type of relationship or a necessarily passionate love affair that traversed crazy boundaries. So basically, I don’t think it’s in either of their characters to be the one and only cloud/leaf pairing and the talk of both villages, so there must be other cloud/leaf couples. Their relationship is also proof that Kishi is willing to throw seemingly random couples at us. As for how Samui and Rock Lee got together, I imagine that Rock Lee’s genuine attitude just got through to her.
That concludes my essay. I mostly wanted to get this out there because the more I think about it the more I believe in SamuLee and I want this up and posted as proof that I knew it all along. Or have this as a reminder of a dream that never came true. Either or.
EDIT: ALSO ALSO Cold (Samui) + Rock (Rock Lee) = Metal. COINCIDENCE?! I THINK NOT!
