Samsara Eye: Eye of Suffering, the True Meaning

NB, an interesting debate has revealed a very interesting theory (soon to be fact, I feel) that should shed some light on the origin of the Rinnegan.

Eye of Suffering
An esteemed colleague has revealed the origin of the meaning of Samsara Eye: Eye of Suffering. It is thought to mean the Sage was suffering due to the Juubi being sealed within him and was blessed with the Rinnegan due to it. But I feel this is incorrect. There is a much simpler explanation: The Rinnegan is awaken during times of great suffering (i.e. War). Here are some supporting evidence:
Jiraiya tells of the Sage's past and the era of the times:

Times of endless wars. War creates suffering. Then a priest "appears" and spread his religion and discovered chakra.
[Third Databook pg 313]
"It was said that in times when the world is in disorder, a person is sent down from the heavens to become either a "God of Creation" who will calm the world, or a "Destroyer" who will reduce everything to nothingness."
Further proof the Rinnegan are divine eyes. Influenced from Heaven.

Madara
Madara also unlocked his Rinnegan during times of great suffering (Ninja World War). I found it odd that he couldn't unlock them right away after getting Hashirama's cells. Then I thought about the requirement: Suffering.

Nice theory. So your saying that the sage was born from the heavens and after suffering then he unlocked it then summoned the juubi and sealed it. Or did he just create the juubi with creation of all things and allow it to collect natural energy to grow in strength?

No, due to the time of suffering and endless wars, the eyes were awaken in the Sage. But yes, it is possible he was sent from the heavens. NV Jesus, so to speak.

Actually, taking the manga out of context is on your side. What I mean by "proof" is the up coming chapters and the possibility of the Sage showing up and laying all the theories and possible speculation to rest.

I dont think I have. I've only stated their direct quotes. Yes, the Sage showing up would be convenient for me.

Madara awakened the Rinnegan by combining Mokuton and Sharingan from Uchiha and Senju DNA, both which came from the Juubi. The Juubi is the source of the Rinnegan.
