She wasn't showing off when she went on to attack Madara. She was trying to prove herself as someone strong and not a weakling that was always overshadowed by her teammates.

She really wanted to contribute, not just kept getting behind by her two teammates like in the past.

I don't know. Possibly. I remember her saying she didn't need to use it to maintain her youth and just like Tsunade surviving being sliced in half, she survived being stabbed through the gut.

However she is cutting her life in half because of it.

Hmm its very confusing how her's works. After Naruto takes the rod out there was a little bit of blood so I think her healing process may be slower than Tsunade and wont have as much as a side effect.
