yeah... I don't think I've ever seen that translation, could you link it? Secondly a hermit is neither necessarily a wiseman, sage, or good guy in gereral. A hermit is someone who isolates themselves from the rest of society, sometime in order to some higher plain of understand or ability.

So far in the story Naruto has had a tendency to reject the difficult either/or options, "I'm not going to kill Sasuke and I'm going to protect the village!" "I'm not going to die and become the loser, nor and I going to kill you and be the hero." So, Naruto is the one who understands this and is trying to have the breakthrough.

That would mean that Madara isn't right, he was the one who was just trying to do more of the same. The past is not there as an example of how the future will go, the Sage said. The past is there to learn things from.

I see this playing out one of four possible ways:

The first is that Naruto is a clone - perhaps disguised as a transformed object once again (perhaps a headband?).

The second is that there is a "talk no jutsu" moment and/or Sasuke is just unable to go through with it.

The third is that Sakura intervenes. The way the manga pages are set up would suggest that Sakura is too far away - but that is not for certain. I've speculated such a thing would occur, before:

The fourth is that Hinata intervenes. As insane as this sounds - there is the precedent for such behavior from Hinata. The only problem is that the last time we saw her, she was in Infinite Tsukuyomi. Although there could be something about the Byakugan, Kaguya, Hyuuga, transmigrants and space aliens, or something in there to explain how a bullshit jutsu was countered by some other bullshit. Or she found herself while in IT, or something....

I suppose this leads to an even crazier 'fifth' proposal - which is all of the alliance breaking out of IT because Naruto gave them all a common hope, or something, and friendship defeated IT.

Friendship allowed Lee to wield a rasengan - so why not?
