So apparently after today episode preview for next week Sakura is seen healing that old man in the operation room.

So we are seeing a glimpse of her before Gaiden it seems.

There really is no logic behind it beyond him simply not caring enough to visit them. Not saying he doesn't care, but just doesn't care enough. It's a harsh reality to accept, but that's what everything points towards.

We know it has nothing to do with him not wanting to put Sakura/Salad in danger or whatever because not only is there no danger to speak of as far as we know, but he did stay with them in Gaiden for a night, so the idea that he's away because he doesn't want to put them in danger by being with them is also ungrounded.
