Didn't know that too. But anyway, it's not really worth watching. I watched it when I was a kid, but only because it was on TV. It's not some kind of Anime, which I'd watch online. But it's your choice anyway, so go for it.
All in all: Watch the classic version. ( It offers you more episodes. )

Ot: it was !y first anime but in don't care for it now I would enjoy child hood but I rather watch popeye

Recent episodes skipped the filler and remain true to the manga. I'd say do it. It's basically a girl's version of Dragonball.
