Sai donot serve any purpose to the manga or team 7.Sakura ,Naruto and Sasuke outclass Sai,i am not seeing any progress or upgrade of sai power which is base on ink drawing.Sai have not shown much in previous chapters.I believe he will die like Neji protecting Naruto if the jubi use another special jutsu.

he has sealing techniques. in the previous chapters in the war arc. he took action during the team announcement.
