Lol realy? Its the start of maduras brain washing in telling some info of his moon eyes plan, and to explain he needs to tell about other stuff, like the sage and the ten-tails. The carving is like that way becuase if you don't remember, the sage took the 10 tails into his body, becoming the 1st jinjuriki. Knowing that the seal would weaken inside him and the 10 tails would just break loose again, he split it into 9 tailed beasts, was old by then.
