Sage mode might be quite a bit for Akatsuki. But lets look at some feats. Kakuzu is a high ranking S class with multiple nature types. He has incredible speed that is on par, if not faster than kakashi. Plus high level of durability. Kisame is highly deceptive and with the combination of taking on Guy he has Samehada which can easily take drain chakra reserves. Hidan is just filler, there to help out the odds.
