Sage Mode Explained

In response to the other topic about Sage mode. I noticed that no one in there is actually posting the information from the manga itself thus leading people to not understand exactly how it works and why everyone cannot do it. With this being said I will break down Sage mode so that everyone gets a clear understanding:

The manga clips above should narrow it down to who you feel can and cant use Sage mode however I will explain it more.


To use Senjutsu there are 4 variables based on the scans above

Chakra quantity
Chakra Potency
Chakra control
Body to maintain

The reason why Naruto and Hashirama excelled at Senjutsu was because they had all 4 categories as mentioned above especially when it concerned quantity.

Now everyone else in the series lacked in 1 or 2 of the other categories this is why there sage modes were not effective or they couldn't do it at all.

the only exception was Kabuto due to Jyugo's ability to naturally absorb nature energy

Now that we have this established I will show you why Sage modes will and will not work for specific clans/characters

Uchiha Clan:

Chakra control: Hell Yes
Chakra Potency: Hell Yes
Body to Maintain: Potentially
Chakra Quantity: Sasuke and Madara Yes

Now before people bite my head off about the Chakra Quantity let us remember that Sasuke, Madara and Itachi without enhancements did not have Chakra quantity. However due to their powerful chakra they were able to do more with less. With this being said IF an uchiha was to train for sage mode I believe they would not be able to maintain it for long as they lack the body and quantity.

Hyuuga Clan:

Chakra Control: Yes
Chakra Potency: Yes
Body to Maintain: No
Chakra Quantity: Potentially

One could argue that a Hyuuga's chakra control is perfect enough to overcome it but then the question is do they have the body to maintain which in my opinion I would say no. Chakra Quantity is debatable as well as we have not seen feats of endurance from hyuuga.

Uzumaki

chakra control: Yes
Chakra Potency: Hell yes
Body to Maintain: Yes
chakra Quantity: Hell Yes

Uzumaki by far would be the perfect candidates for Sage mode as they specialize in chakra control AND have large quantities of it and more endurance than any other character in the show WITHOUT enhancements

Minato:

Chakra Control: Yes
Chakra Potency: Yes
Body to Maintain: Temporarily
Chakra quantity: Not much

While some my disagree with this post. I believe Minato's quantity of chakra really showed when he temporarily used Sage mode. the reason why I say this is because he had perfect Chakra control, excellent chakra potency and he was strong enough to actually use sage mode. However what he lacked was the body to maintain and potentially the chakra quantity.


I put Minato because based on this theory I had awhile ago about Sage compatibility I was quite impressed that he displayed it.

Anyways if you ask me about a character I can add more or if you like add your own

Hyuuga clan was on the moon overwatching the ten tails shell. I'm pretty sure they're are powerful enough to do anything they set their mind too.

After all, this manga also showed that one can build up their endurance and stamina to master something.

so? Minato is a sensor type of a ninja , which means his sage mode will increased abilities for sensor type of skill

Yup that's why I said temporarily for Minato. However his chakra control and potency helped him tremendously at achieving the little Senjutsu he can absorb

anyone who achieves perfect sage has the body and stamina to do so. To say otherwise goes against the manga.

It's been explained a lot in the past, NE makes the chakra more potent and also provides the user with a near unlimited access to energy that enhances the chakra (depending on their potential).

Only Ashura and his descendants can use NE to its full potential because their bodies have the stamina to control large amounts of chakra and the compatibility with NE due to inheriting JJ Hagoromo's body power.

I think that's why J-man had an imperfect SM because he lack chakra control which is 1 of the 4 one would need to be a perfect sage or perhaps 2 of the 4 the body.. (Hence Ma & Pa) With what you have posted, it would seem that Hogoromo/Naruto & Yakushi are the only perfect sages barr JJ Obito/Madara & even that's debatable..

Though we haven't seen any hyuuga with the stamina (because all the Uchiha wank in the series) it's not to say that they don't have the stamina to maintain it for long periods of time just like a perfect sage would because they have all the requirements for it IMO..
