well, i think the uzumaki and hyuuga came from the sage's children.

Uchiha and senju have more brute force than uzumaki and hyuuga. but they have a spiritual air about them(hyuuga and uzumaki) so i agree with what you are saying.

As for what happened to the brother? maybe he died during the fight with the juubi or that fight left him in a heavily injured state leading to eventual death.
