Itachi was already dead but it was his soul anyway.

Itachi 2nd death made him rest in peace ..
His 1st death was kinda sad , since he couldn't express his feelings to sasuke

Granted Itachi's is only sad if you go back and watch it after knowing what happens.

To be honest here is the best list of saddest death in manga and it includes my reaction :

1) itachi death - 10/10 (crying loudly)
2) zabuza death 9/10 (crying gently)
3) jiraya death 8/10 (tear in my eye)
4) asuma death 7/10 (sad and shock)

The other deaths aren't that sad :xylon:

I didn't cry at Itachi's death, simply because Itachi's death wasn't even sad.
Itachi's death was just like any other villians death, i cried when i heard his story, now that was just sad.
If we are counting the story in the death, than Itachi's is the saddest one.
If not, Jiraiya's is the saddest.
Killed by his own disciple, and being severely wounded and then drowning, and not to mention him talking about Naruto, realizing that it was him that named him, and passing his will on to him...... and even talking about a book he wanted to write, but he was dieing.

And Jiraiya is also my favorite character and always was so that makes everything worse for me.
