SACRIFICE FOR PEACE
This meant trouble. He never would’ve considered this to happen.
Shikachi Nara sat in the trees, high above the ground, where he looked upon the gathering of Cloud Ninja, camouflaged, while they were resting. The Gold and Silver Brothers were laughing while eating some food. Last time he heard about those two, they were swallowed whole by the Nine-Tails. How did they survive I wonder?
‘Hey Kinkaku, we should decide how to make a good entrance.’
‘You’re always full of stupid ideas. Who cares about our entrance, Ginkaku? It’s all about killing the Raikage and Hokage.’
‘Hmph, we’re getting old. I want to leave something legendary behind so they can sing about those brothers fearsome appearance! We should really come up with something, Kinkaku!’
‘And I keep telling you brother, it doesn’t matter. We only have to stop these peace negotiations and finish them off.’
‘You’ve always been troublesome and stubborn, Kinkaku.’
‘Aren’t we both, brother?’
They started laughing hysterically. Shikachi noticed how they stood up and examined their ninja tools every couple minutes, making sure they were in tip-top shape. Weren’t those the famous treasured tools of the Rikudou Sennin? The Bashosen, Benihisago, Kokinjo and Shichiseiken? And they said they were going to kill the Raikage and Hokage-sama! After all the fighting, there finally was a solution and a chance to reach peace with the treaty negotiations, and these monsters were going to kill it. He had to warn Nidaime and the others of their revival. Just when he turned to depart, he heard the brothers talk again:
‘Say, Kinkaku, should we first amuse ourselves with that little worm from the Leaf up in that tree?’
‘Sounds like a good idea brother.’
Crap! They already knew about him! How did they notice him? He was sure they weren’t Sensor-ninjas. No time to think about it. He had to leave now and make it back to Konoha to inform Hokage-sama.
‘He’s getting away, Ginkaku!’
‘Aaaah, it’s always so annoying when they start running. We better get the best out of the chase then, Kinkaku. Who knows, but it might be the start of a good entrance?’
‘Now I hear you talking Ginkaku!’
Shikachi jumped from tree to tree, trying to gain speed. He was desperate and deep down he knew it was already too late. He couldn’t outrun the Gold and Silver Brothers. He grabbed two kunai, preparing himself for battle. Maybe that his knew invented technique could hold them off for a bit. He infused the kunai with his chakra and waited for the brothers. Soon enough they stood before him.
‘So. Did you give up?’ asked one of the brothers.
‘Shadow Imitation Shuriken Technique!’ yelled Shikachi. He threw a kunai to the both of them, but they didn’t even try dodging it.
‘Where are you throwing that? Konoha must been out of good ninja if someone like you was sent to spy on us.’
‘I didn’t aim for your bodies,’ said Shikachu. ‘But for your shadows.’
‘Crap! I can’t move!’
‘Stupid Ginkaku! Why didn’t you dodge!’
While the brothers started arguing with each other, Shikachi grabbed a scroll, writing ink and a small paintbrush. He started writing his letter to Nidaime Hokage and included the information about the Brothers and their arrival. When he finished the letter, he had to tighten his grip on the brothers. They were struggling hard against his Shadow technique. Too bad he couldn’t share it with the clan yet, as it wasn’t fully finished. Hopefully, someone will re-invent it.
He bit his thumb and pressed his hand against the ground. ‘Kuchiyose no jutsu!’ A small bang ensued, followed by some white smoke. Out of the smoke came a deer that he summoned out of the Nara forest. ‘I need you to bring this back to the village,’ he said to the deer. The deer gazed into Shikachi’s eyes, and grabbed the scroll with his mouth, running off.
‘You think we will let it get away?’
‘Of course not, Ginkaku. After we defeat this little Shadow Leaf worm, the deer is next!’
‘You won’t reach it in time. I will stall you just long enough to let it go free. I know that deer. It’s a fast runner, faster than the both of you.’
‘Haha. We’ll see about that. Anyway, how much longer will you manage? You’re starting to lose your grip and seem to be running out of chakra.'
“It was true”, thought Shikachi. ‘I will sacrifice my life for the Hokage and the end of the Shinobi World War.’
‘Like it’s going to do any good,” laughed Kinkaku, his deep voice echoing through the forest.
Shikachi used up all of his chakra to hold them off as long as he could. These were his last moments, and his thoughts went out to his beloved ones. ‘I’m sorry, my son Shikaku. I hope you’ll realize the meaning of my sacrifice. Become a bright boy. My friends of the Yamanaka and Akimichi Clans: I know you have had your sacrifices as well to save the Nara clan in desperate times, so now I’ll even the score with my own sacrifice. Torifu Akimichi, remember when our friend of the Yamanaka clan died? I’m sorry, but now I have to go as well. May my sacrifice bring you a long life. I hope that our sons will become friends and strong shinobi together.’
He couldn’t go on any longer. The chakra in the kunai vanished and the brothers stood there and grinned at him. ‘It’s over, shadow guy… Any last words?’
‘I will die as an honorable shinobi! I am happy to sacrifice my life and have no regrets!’ shouted Shikachu.
They attacked him with the Legendary Ninja tools. He wasn’t able to dodge the blows and when he was hit by one of them, he felt like he had to vomit. Out of his mouth came a weird shaped balloon that was cut off by Kinkaku. He used the Benihisago to suck in the balloon and smiled when he looked back at the sword called Shichiseiken.
‘How ironic. His most said word is ‘sacrifice’. Isn’t that funny, brother?’
‘Soon it will be over, Kinkaku.’
Shikachu threw a paper bomb to Kinkaku and jumped through the smoke on him with a kunai, ready to stab him. ‘Maybe that my sacrifice might bring down one of you guys.’
And then… He felt like there was a hook in his belly that pulled him. The gourd held by Kinkaku came closer and closer as he was being sucked in. This was it. His life was over. But he had no regrets. The deer would soon reach Hokage-sama and his sacrifice would save the Raikage and Hokage.
I give my thanks to DoubleA49 for editing. This is my first story in English and I'm glad he spent some time to clean up the context a bit.
